Toofan Review:

Toofan film

I have just finished watching Toofan (English translation: The Storm) and there is just one thought bumming in my head; Farhan Akhtar is the best man to perform a character of a sportsman. Toofan is a romance sports drama released on Amazon Prime. It is a fictional film, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Along with Farhan Akhtar, the film stars Paresh Rawal and Mrunal Thakur.

Plot:

Aziz Ali is an extortionist who works for Jaffar. He can do nothing but fight. One day he sees a man boxing and dreams of becoming a boxer. While fulfilling his dream, he meets a boxing Coach Narayan Prabhu. The coach realizes that Aziz has a lot of strength but lacks in technique. He takes the responsibility to train him in person. He trains him and makes him worthy to create history.

Review:

First of all, let us start with the acting because we have got very talented actors in this film. Farhan Akhtar nailed this film with his performance. He proved again that he is the best for sports drama films. I always knew he is the best for these kinds of roles. His acting skills coupled with his fitness and strength make him perfect for such roles.

I am not a sports person but I do enjoy watching sports film. I have watched ‘Bhag Milkha Bhag’, ‘Sultan’, ‘Gold’, and a lot of other movies. Therefore, this film was exciting for me. The fighting sequences were very much inspiring. In addition, the background soundtracks for those scenes just added another layer of inspiration. For me, these were the best moments of the film.

Paresh Rawal and Mrunal Thakur have a father-daughter relationship in the movie. I must say they were superb in their roles. Paresh Rawal is as good as always. Similarly, Mrunal Thakur has supported him nicely by being his daughter. The last time I saw her was on a TV serial and then ‘Super 30’ film. In a way, I can say I have seen her progress in her career. So, it was nice seeing someone you have known for years making progress in his/her life.

At this point, you would be thinking this is a very good movie, but trust me, it’s not. The script of this film is terrible. Although they developed all these characters in a very good manner, the screenplay of the film is very boring. It’s mostly because you can predict every single move of the film. Moreover, the runtime of the film is approximately 160 minutes. Watching such a boring and prolonged film would be the worst thing you could do in your whole day.

There are some emotional moments in the film that would make you cry. Whether it be their tragic backstory or the events that will happen in between the film, they all make love these characters. However, that is just for few minutes. The next thing you would wish to finish is the film once and for all. It is because those few moments could never justify the whole film no matter how emotional you feel for the characters.

Should you watch Toofan?

Toofan turned out to be an average film for me. The cast of the film was extremely talented and loved all of them. The characters, cast, action, direction everything was nice. The film had everything that was required. The only thing this needed was a good screenplay. The predictable nature of the story made me lose interest in it. I was anticipated for this film

These are just my personal opinions about the film. Just because I did not like this film does not mean it is bad. If you are a sports person then you may like this film. It will definitely motivate you to play harder. Also, the film is officially dubbed in English. So, if you are fluent in English then the language will not be a problem for you.
